SERMON STARTER

 

          In 2003 I received three titanium stints to open up the arteries in my heart. Along with the stints my doctor prescribed a blood thinner, Plavix.  From that experience I entered into the bruising experience. To say I bruise easily now is an understatement. Sometimes the bruises are deep purple. Sometimes they are black and bluish. It takes weeks for an individual bruise to heal. By the time it has healed, I have received several new bruises.

          My sermon today is concerning spiritual bruising that occurs in the lives of some vulnerable people. Here are some people who bruise easily:

Those with an unhealthy need for approval

Those who are unable to say "no" and create emotional     boundaries for themselves

People assigned a Black Sheep role in their family systems

 

The Bible is filled with people bruised by Satan:

          Abraham was bruised by his own Lies

          Moses was bruised by the sin of Murder and Deception

          Gideon was bruised by his own Doubts

          Sampson was bruised by his own Lust and Selfishness

          David bruised by Adultery and Murder

          Woman at the Well bruised by Rejection in John 4

          Woman with the Issue of Blood was bruised by her circumstances, depressed and lonely - Luke 8

          Peter was bruised by his Denial and Refusal to Testify of Jesus

          Paul was bruised by Earlier Persecution of Christian Believers

 

Examples of people bruised by Satan

          1. The person with numerous incidences of Adultery

          2. The  man who is addicted to Alcohol and Drugs

          3. The woman who is a compulsive Gambler

          4. Young person disrespecting and disobeying his parents

God can heal the bruised and broken hearted. He takes those who are wounded by life and its circumstances and says,

            He who comes to Me I will in no wise cast out!   John 6:37

Understanding Satanic Bruises

ISAIAH 61:1-4 - ISAIAH 53:1-6

"A Satanic bruise occurs in any area of a individual's emotional life that has been repetitively hammered by Satan from early childhood to the present."

"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has anointed me to preach good news to the poor; He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight for the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, (oppressed,)  to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."            Luke 4:18-19; See Isa. 61:1-4

I.  SATAN'S PURPOSE IS TO BRUISE - Gen. 3:15

15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your

   seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His

   heel."

          A. Every Biblical Patriarch Experienced Bruising - Isaiah 53:5

                5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our

              iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His

              stripes we are healed.

                        1. Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Job, etc.

                        2. Even the Savior  was bruised!

            B. Jesus chose to be bruised    

                        1. Isa. 53:5 - ". . .He was bruised for our iniquities. . ."

                        2. Isa. 53:10 - ". . .it pleased the Lord to bruise Him. . ."

            C. How was Jesus bruised?

                        1. Betrayed by a close friend

                        2. Rejected - Luke 4:24
                        24 Then He said, "Assuredly, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in

                          his own country.

                        3. Falsely Accused - Matthew 5:11-12
                        11 "Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all

                          kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12 Rejoice and be

                          exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they

                          persecuted the prophets who were before you.

                        4. Hated

                        5. Forsaken

 

II. SATAN'S BRUISES CRIPPLE

          A. Innocent children are the enemy's prime targets

                        1. Even before birth certain children are targeted

                        2. Fear can enter a person's life in infancy

                        3. Rejection can enter a person's life as a young child

            B. Satanic Bruises, received when a child, bears sick fruit

                        1. Bruised and rejected adult/children cannot love and receive                              love

                        2. Cannot confront others

                        3. Are afraid of their own anger

                        4. Withdraw in fear from conflict sometimes

                        5. Become aggressive and rebellious other times

            C. God's children are especially prime Satanic targets

                     1. Newly Spirit-Filled believers will experience suspicion and                                rejection

                        2. Satanic bruises can result in lies, distortions and division

                        3. Whole churches can be disrupted by unhealed bruises

 

III. THE BONDAGE OF SATANIC BRUISES - Heb. 12:1

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us."

A. Satanic Bruises bind us - See Matt. 18:18

                18 Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in                          heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

                      1. They bind us to the physical person who hurt us - Matt. 6:14

                                14 "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will

                            also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses,

                            neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.   Matthew 6:14-15

                        2. They bind us to bitterness from the hurt

                        3. They bind us from loving and receiving love

4. Satan operates very effectively thru bruising

            B. Jesus has come to set free those who are bruised

1. Some bruises bind the believer from within

                        2. Bruises are healed and bondages are broken thru applying

                                    spiritual principles

                        3. Personal Christian growth and ministry are often bound by                           Satanic Bruises and Injuries in early childhood

IV. HEALING SATAN'S BRUISES - Luke 4:18,19

          A. Know Satan's Voice - Ezekiel 28:13
            13 You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was your

               covering: The sardius, topaz, and diamond, Beryl, onyx, and jasper,

               Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your

               timbrels and pipes Was prepared for you on the day you were created.

                        2. Filled with Satan's own Persuasive Logic

            B. Satan Attacks by Accusation

                        1. Greek, "Sa-tan-os" means "Accuser"

                        2. "You call yourself a Christian. . ."

            C. Satan Attacks by Deception - Genesis 3:1

                1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the

              LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, "Has God indeed said,

             'You shall not eat of every tree of the garden'?"

            D. Satan Attacks by Error

                        1. Hath God said?

                        2. He is Anti-Christ

                        3. He Opposes God

                        4. He Suggests Opposite of Jesus' Teaching

            E. Satan Attacks by Doubt

            F. Know the Word of God and be ready to quote it

                        1. WE have been Brainwashed to believe a Lie

                        2. WE must speak the truth in love - Eph. 4

            G. Resist the Devil and his Lies - James 4:7-8

                7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

            8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you

              sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

HE WHO THE SON SETS FREE IS FREE INDEED!
